April 8, 2004 - Metropolitan Hospital
PHANYC highlighted ways to solve problems caused by environmental
threats, as part of series being held across the country during the American
Public Health Association (APHA) 2004 National Public Health Week on Eliminating
Health Disparities.
Environmental pollution, ranging from tobacco smoke to diesel
fumes to lead dust, can cause serious respiratory health issues. Exposure
to these types of environmental risks varies based on race and ethnicity,
income and geographic location. PHANYC pulled together public health leaders
who highlighted just a few programs that are working around the city to address
respiratory and other environmental-related problems, as well as their underlying
issues such as poverty and access to health care.
