6th Annual Finding Your Inner Leader “Aha!” Conference: Leading Across Communities!
Friday, June 24, 2011
9:30 AM – 5:00 PM
This year’s conference, in addition to addressing how to be a
leader in your own organization, highlighted how to
attract and retain followers across diverse communities when
promoting your organization’s health goals, visions, and
initiatives. Experts and local leaders discussed and
provided specific tips and techniques about how to recognize and
respond to the different leadership expectations, needs, and
requirements of multiple communities or community sub-groups.
They enjoyed rousing opening comments on Leading Across Communities
by our dedicated and passionate Deputy Borough President Yvonne
Graham and the always insightful and “exciteful” Richard Gitlin.
They became inspired by the year’s panel of Courageous Leaders. Network
(or walk along the beach) during lunch, and then sink your teeth
into two practical information-filled workshops on how to lead
communities of people of different ages/generations, neighborhoods,
economic status, culture and ethnicity, and gender and sexual
orientation; as well as communities of people who are
differently-abled; and men and women in uniform.
The conference was co-sponsored by Kingsborough Community College, the Public Health Association of New York City, and the Brooklyn Borough President’s Office and is supported by many local organizations (check back here for the ever-growing list).
